About
Barbara McIlvaine Smith

This race is about what we deserve and expect from our elected leaders in Harrisburg and which candidate can offer the right kind of leadership.

Leadership is about acting responsibly. It's about putting citizens' needs ahead of personal political interests.

Leadership means aggressively fighting against closed-door political dealings while building the coalitions of support to solve the problems of this state.

The current culture of "politics as usual" in Harrisburg is not serving the hard-working voters here in Chester County. I want to change that culture. I pledge to use my experiences as a state legislator, an elected local official and a community leader to make the reforms necessary.

My life experience, like most of you know, is very broad based. As a small-business owner providing service to residents all over the area, a former borough council member, a leader for the re-energizing of West Chester's downtown and an advocate for responsible decision making on key issues such as property taxes, smart growth, and quality education — I want to continue to serve as a citizen leader in Harrisburg putting your interest above all else.

My Résumé

"Great principles don't get lost once they come to light.
They're right here; you just have to see them again!"
